JCA Day 11

Tristan's name was drawn last week, and he got to take Henrietta home for the weekend!
Friday is shopping day. These sweet, precious, beautiful little girls bought Bubba teeth????
What were they thinking???
We put together a whole booklet today on all the days of God's creation! We even used cotton balls for the clouds.....too much fun! How many students get to learn about, talk about creation at school???? It's SO awesome!
And how many kids get to pet Boots, the kitty, on the playground? Is he in hog heaven or what??????
We love Ms. Corrina's story time!
Every morning we say the pledge of allegiance to the American flag and the Christian flag as well!

Day 11.........Another great day! More coloring, cutting, and gluing today! Once again, we practiced the "u" and the sounds it makes. We had a little oral math quiz. Each student had to identify numbers (out of order) and then count from 1-10. They did great!
We had our first trip to the library today. They each checked out a book....several thought they were buying it.......but they don't have to turn it in until next Friday on our next trip to the library.
We also saw a Veggie Tales movie about "Little Jo"......the story of Joseph and his brothers! Ms. Frances, Ms. Corrina, and Ms. Crill all thought it was hysterical!
Ms. Frances was back today, and so many of the kids told her how we had prayed for her... way cool!
Absolutely cannot wait for next week!

Rainbow Day: Day 10

Hannah R., Carter, and Tristan are working with their eye droppers to mix colors!

Brayden, Jo'Claire, and Brady are also using eye droppers to mix colors!
Logan, Emilia, Kimberly, and Hannah M. are working on mixing colors as well!
Yesterday, we began talking about the colors of the rainbow. Today, we extended on that and discussed the primary colors. Then, we mixed the primary colors in different combinations to get the secondary colors! What fun it was......and even more fun was learning HOW to use the eye dropper!

Today was Day 10 for JCA.......so on our place value chart, we were able to bundle up ten straws to put in the tens cup! Our first set of tens for the year! We do count by tens every day!
Students practiced the "u" and number 2 again today. They have really improved since the first day of trying to write the "u" or the 2!
First thing this morning, students worked on a sequencing page where they had to color, cut, and glue the picture together in order for the picture to make sense.
They all did very well with that!
Today for our Bible lesson, we had an egg and related it to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The egg has three parts (shell, yellow, & white) just like God is also three in one. We also reviewed the fact that Satan sent the snake (serpent) to tempt Adam and Eve. It worked, and they had to leave the Garden of Eden.
In Social Studies, we learned about the globe as well as a map of the world. We talked about the seven continents and the four oceans, and remembered how God separated the land from the sea. We also found the state of NM on the US map! And.....we discussed that God loves everybody in the world!
PE was HUGE fun today! Miss Sadie came and brought the parachute! There were lots of games and laughs with the parachute! And even some relay races....................
A good time was had by all.......again! LOVE it!

The First Class at JCA

Have you ever seen a better looking bunch of kids???? I just get choked up looking at this picture when I realize this is THE FIRST CLASS AT JCA!!! I have pictures of my mom at Highlonesome School years ago which mean so much to me. Someday this picture will be the same! These guys are making history! Plus, they are really, really cute!

Students are learning about the letter "u" this week. We made "u" out of clay, and we have practiced writing "u" over and over. Some students are finding it very challenging to write a "u", as well as the number 2! They are learning that practice makes perfect!
We have also been learning a lot about patterns. Today, we used pipe cleaners and beads to make a pattern out of colored beads, picking out the right color and the right amount of beads. Then, we repeated the pattern, and finally, finished up by counting the total number of beads used to make the pattern two times.
The students also played Bingo today using colors and shapes. They are superstars when it comes to colors and shapes!
Ms. Corrina helped them practice identifying ABCs on computer games. Computer time is definitely an exciting and favorite time during the day!
We learned a new song today. Some of you will remember this: The B-i-b-l-e, Yes, that's the book for me.....I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-i-b-l-e. And, during our prayer time today, we prayed for Ms. Frances because she is not feeling well.
Tomorrow, we will practice the "u" and the number 2 again........we are going to get good at this. Just you wait and see!

Umbrella and Fruit Loops

Today was Day 8 at JCA! It is our 8th day, we have 8 pennies in our piggy bank, and we have 8 straws in our place value cup! We also started working on the letter "u" today. Therefore, the umbrella! (It starts with "u"!) So does unicorn, up, upside down, under, and underwear!
We used Fruit Loops and pipe cleaners to make a pattern and then repeat the pattern......and then EAT the Fruit Loops! Yea!
In Bible class, we talked more about the days of creation. It is our subject for this week!
We also colored and concentrated on the number 2 today. We've been counting by ones and tens, and practicing our ABCs. In PE, we played with hoola hoops! And, of course, no day would be complete without "A Tooty Ta!"
Another wonderful and productive day!

Playing Instruments

Ms. Frances came today, and the students were allowed to play different kinds of instruments! They loved it!
Today, we colored, cut, and glued! We practiced the "I" one more time......colored with red and blue again.........and sang Tooty Ta!!!!
We discussed creation really focusing in on exactly what happened on each of the six days. We sang Jesus Loves Me, and we prayed together!
We recited The Itsy Bitsy Spider, and practiced the number 5.
One of the most fun things today was The Veggie Tale movie! It was about Moses, the Israelites, Joshua, and obedience! It was great!
At the end of the day, Sadie played Jesus, Our Superhero.....and The Roundup....we danced and sang.....loudly!
Tristan's name was drawn to be the one who got to take Henrietta home this weekend. He was HAPPY! And, Oh yes......it was shopping day!

A Tooty Ta

A Tooty Ta A Tooty Ta A Tooty Ta Ta.......Thumbs up, elbows back, feet apart, knees together, bottoms up, tongue out, eyes shut, turn around! We love it! You should join us sometime!

Today, we practiced the letter "i" again. We each had two pretzels. We kept one the original size and broke the other in half. We used the original one for the long part of the "I" and broke the other one in half to make the hat and shoes for the capital "I". We also made a lower case "i" out of a pretzel. (We ate the extras!)
We used the color blue today; we worked on our first graph in math, and also practiced numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4! We counted chips and made a chart with the chips for numbers 1 through 10. We counted by tens, too!
We reviewed the Bible story from yesterday about Adam, Eve, and the serpent. Ms. Corrina read to us while Ms. Crill cut out a tree, apple, and snake from construction paper to go along with the story. We sang about the days of the week and the months of the year.
We learned about the United States of America and colored a map of it. We talked about the directions: North, South, East, West. We learned that we are Americans, and that God loves not only Americans, but everybody!
Because we learned that "i" says "i" as in ice cream......we made an ice cream cone using pink construction paper torn into mosaic pieces and glued to the top of an ice cream cone.
The girls had computer time, while the boys had center time. Tomorrow we will switch. And then, there was PE with Miss Sadie and Mr. Clay.
We were really busy, but it was a super day!

We Have An Awesome Playground!

I just had to add these pictures from the playground! The kids are loving the swing sets and sandpiles. A big thank you goes out to Charley Price and crew for making this possible!

We made ice cream in a bag!

Today was a special day! First of all, it was Brady's birthday! So, we had cupcakes....yum! And then.......Shannon Franklin from the Extension office came. We discovered that ice cream comes from milk, milk comes from black and white cows, and that God made the cows! We had bags that had milk, sugar, and vanilla in them. We placed them inside larger bags that had ice and salt in them. And we SHOOK.....and SHOOK.......and SHOOK! Soon, we had ice cream! It was SO yummy!

We continued to talk about letter "I", and we practiced writing "i" some more. We also discovered that the sound of "i" may not only be at the beginning of words like igloo, insects, iquana, and indian, but can also be in the middle of words like pig, did, and hill.
In Bible class, we learned about the 7 days of creation and about the serpent tempting Eve to eat the fruit. Did you know the Bible does not say the fruit was an apple?......it just says it was a fruit. We talked about the Garden of Eden and the lamb that was slain and shed blood for Adam and Eve's sin and how Jesus shed his blood to cover our sins.
We practiced the numbers 1, 2, and 3 again and did some counting. . We also concentrated on the color red. One of the books we read today was Green Eggs and Ham... One of the favorites!
Ms. Frances came today, and the students learned Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star with motions.
So, it was a full and fun day!

Introducing Henrietta!

I had lots of questions about, "Who is Henrietta?" So, meet Henrietta. She is our class mascot who hangs on our coat rack all day observing our activities. On Fridays, one name is drawn, and she gets to go spend the weekend with one of our students. In the backpack is a journal for them to record all the weekend's activities. Then back in school on Tuesday, the student will share with the class all of the fun things they did over the weekend. Jo'Claire's name was drawn first, and she took Henrietta home with her this last weekend. The most fun??? Letting Henrietta sleep with her! They cuddled!

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Miss Sadie and Mr. Clay came today for PE! A great time was had by ALL!

Today, we began practicing the letter "i".....capital "I" and lower case "i". We learned that "i" makes the sound of the "i" in indian and igloo and iguana.......AND....it makes the sound of "i" in ice cream! We also learned the sign for letter "i" in sign language!
We practiced numbers 1, 2, and 3......we counted frogs, too.
In Bible class we learned that heaven is a wonderful place. There will be no darkness, no sadness, no death, no tears, and no sin in heaven. Heaven is awesome!
During science we learned that God made everything in the world. The students took turns placing felt animals and plants on the felt board to show all the marvelous things God has made.....including us!
Our center time was filled with computer activities and folder games...matching upper and lower case letters, counting, identifying pairs of letters, working with partners, and working individually as well.
At the end of the day Jo'Claire shared her weekend activities she had with Henrietta! They had a super time.....Henrietta even got to sleep with her! Who will Henrietta go home with this weekend???????

A Great Day at JCA: Day 2

They worked on the computers today. They
absolutely LOVED the activities online! Can't wait until tomorrow!
Ms. Margo worked with the students on sequencing, matching, and the alphabet. Cookie sheets and magnetic letters are awesome!
The students enjoyed playing chimes with Ms.
Frances! What a great experience...they sounded
fantastic!
Students made hats after discussing the fact
that Jesus loved the children and blessed
them. The hats represent the farmers,
carpenters, construction workers, sailors,
all the people that Jesus loves.

Dream Big!

Okay......I admit. I have not done well at keeping up with blogging! I will strive to do better! (hopefully).......It is so hard to believe that Junction Christian Academy is about to begin! OMG! We have nine students, the curriculum, MOST of the furniture, the rugs, the manipulatives, library books, crayons, hoola hoops, sand piles, laptops, everything! What was once just a dream is now actually going to happen! As someone said tonight, "You can't back out now!" Absolutely not.......and don't want to either! I don't know when I've been more excited! Nine families have decided to join their faith with ours and to trust us with their kids and their education for their Kindergarten year! God just completely blows me away at His goodness and provision! So many have stepped up to give, help, and pray. We all should continue to dream.....and dream big..... and then trust God to bring His/our dreams to pass. There is just no telling what He can do through us.......the best is yet to come!
